THE VANISHING HALF.

Author: Brit Bennett.

Genre: Contemporary family drama, historical fiction.

Triggerwarnings: racism, domestic violence, colourism.

Rating: 4⭐

Teenage light skinned black identical twins, Desiree and Stella Vigne, elope from a small town called Mallard in Louisiana. But soon after, Stella just vanishes leaving behind nothing but a note for Desiree. Years later, Desiree returns to Mallard with her dark skinned daughter Jude, while Stella continues to live hidden as a white woman with her white husband and their daughter, Kennedy, abandoning her own family. Their lives reach a full circle when their respective daughters come face to face unintentionally threatening to unveil the lie on which Stella has built the foundation of her new life.

This is one of the best recommendations I have received. While the theme of the book is colourism, racism and domestic violence, it also highlights the prejudice of colorism within the community. It was disturbing and empowering at the same time. It shows how the colour of the skin determines a lot of aspects in the lives of the people. It talks about the extent to which black and coloured people are shunned, that they don’t mind losing their own identity in order to be accepted. Characterization by the skin colour is prominent in the story to emphasize on the affects of racism. It hovers on the idea of bigotry, ethnicity, regret and a life based on a compulsive lie.

This book is a non- linear, multi- generational story of the Vigne twins. The characters are dynamic, raw, and show their grey side of survival. I was able to get into the flow of its smooth narration easily. There is an audiobook on YouTube that you can check out.

IN XANADU. A Quest

Author: William Dalrypmple.

Genre: Travelogue.

Rating:  4.5⭐

Xanadu, now Shangdu, is located in Inner Mongolia, northern China. It was the first capital and the summer capital of the Mongol Empire in the 1263. Xanadu was famous for its palaces, gardens and waterways and was Kublai Khan’s favourite summer palace.

Kublai Khan was the grandson of Genghis Khan and the founder of the Yuan Dynasty in the 13th century China. He was the ruler of the Mongol Empire for 30 yrs. During his reign, Xanadu flourished, making it one of the richest kingdoms. After Kublai Khan’s death, however, Yuan Dynasty started to decline, thus changing the face of the once prosperous city to shambles. Xanadu was believed to be so beautiful, that ‘Xanadu’ term is still used as a metaphor for opulence or an idyllic place.

In 1270s Marco Polo, a Venetian merchant, explorer and a writer travelled along the Silk Route with his father and his uncle and reached Xanadu where he served the court of Kublai Khan for 17 years. Though he was not the first European to reach China, Marco Polo was the first to leave a detailed chronicle of his experience. His travel book inspired Christopher Columbus and many other travellers. Author and his companions are one of the many who decided to retake this path once taken 7 centuries back. They started from Jerusalem to reach a tedious route with multiple ethenic diversities, landscapes and overcame diplomatic complications, struggled for basic comfort to finally reach Xanadu. This travelogue takes us through two timelines, 1270s and 1980s with the glimpse of the history compared to the present . He has collated his observations with that of Marco Polos, adding his own version about the aspects which were either not present or overlooked by the later.

It does take a moment to get into the book if you don’t know the background of the topic. I had to do my own research to understand the scene. Nevertheless, it improved my knowledge and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this hilarious travelogue. It has its ups and downs but never a dull moment.

The Sage

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Sage is a really powerful and sacred herb used for spiritual cleansing and positivity. By the title itself we can conclude that the book must be either philosophical or spiritual.  It turns out to be a great book to put hands on.

It also encourages the idea of self love which is the key to everything.  If one is seeking love from other, then one must learn to love oneself and then only one can achieve love from others.

The storyline is promising and revolves around Nikhil. He is looking for the answer to all the questions that he has from the life.

Nikhil is traveling back to India and while traveling he thinks about his childhood,  his friend,  krishna, and his good days.  Just like every other person, he too has problems in his life and even though trying hard, he just could not end up in positivity. He ends up pointing out every theory he learnt as a child.

Revolving around these issues, slowly he realizes his worth and awakens spiritually.

It was a relatable read as we all face these proin our life but how we deal with them is the thing that matters the most.

We can either deal with them positively and sort the things or deal with them with more stress and negativity and end up making the scenario more miserable.
Overall i loved this book and everyone should read this book definitely.

Warming bloom

The book is a collection of 50 poems where
Ten topics have been merged into five poems each.

I HEARD A SUBLIMINAL AND THIS HAPPENED😨

Hello everyone, I hope you people are doing good and keeping safe.

In today’s bolg I will be sharing with you guys my experience of when I tried a subliminal to loose weight!!!

Experience; Before doing this subliminal challenge myself I watched several vedios of people who had done this challenge before and most of them got negative thoughts and vibes, a headache or a stomach ache after listening to it.

But for me the experience was quite different. As soon as I listened to it I got a boost of positivity in me, my mind felt quite relaxed, there were no negative thoughts as such. It turned out to be like a meditation for me.

Results; Before starting this challenge my weight was 61.5 and after 7 days ie. on completion of the challenge I was 60kg. I lost 1.5 kgs😲. This was really Epic and insane.

I suggest you all should also try this challenge out. I have linked the subliminal which I heard below👇https://youtu.be/BBOA3AuE7Y0

My health is in my hands

Everyone in this world are running, hardworking and giving in consistent efforts to have a better life. But what are we going to do with all luxuries with an ill health. It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver, said Mahatma Gandhi. But the truth is health is not valued till sickness comes.

So, ultimately YOUR HEALTH IS IN YOUR HANDS

Everyone wants to be fit until they get fat. So only fat person needs fitness?

Absolutely no. Fitness is necessary for every human, regardless to their physical tendency, fitness is a consistent effort to give in, in order to maintain a good health. So that’s why we say stay fit, stay healthy. So what can be done? If you’re a person who gets health conscious once in a blue moon then it might really concern you. But do not get tensed or be anxious that makes it even more worse.  Actually you must be happy. Catch up that concern, believe me that is your first step. Being health conscious is the first thing you need to do to get into the adventure. So no more negative vibes it is time to change the playlist and get yourself some heavy dose of motivation. It’s time for some transformation.

Every journey needs a perfect plan and preparation. Preparing yourself is the first thing you need to do. I highly suggest you to gather all your strength and empower yourself. Prepare yourself both mentally and physically.  Set goals, everyday target is the best boost to bring in the consistent effort. Start smoothly. Do happily. The main part of Fitness can be two, one is healthy eating and regular workout. They are the main characters, who play a major role. Healthy eating is definitely easy only when you have health conscious. Food is important, but you must eat to live not live to eat. Fatty foods must not be totally avoided, having control over them is smartness. If you’re going to be controlled and be health conscious then you will ease this. You can do it.   Having good eating routine will never contribute well to your fitness if you do not exercise. Regular body workout is an absolute necessity. No workout no fitness is the apt phrase. You may not do all weight lighting, pay thousands to gym. Workout can be done at home too. Doing cardio and yoga is the best way to kick start. Have a consistency, slow and steady wins the race. Have a friend to accompany you in this journey. The friend is water. Take 2-3 litres of water a day. It gives you the complete support.

Your success starts with self – discipline. Take that deeper, being true to yourself is the most important mantra. Do the work, trust your body.

Secrets to mismarriages by Rusha Joshi

Not only job, background, money, family is important for a marriage a person’s sexuality is also important.

“He just married my utreus”(Quoted from the text). This line startled me for a second during my read. Secrets to mismarriages by Rucha Joshi shows you a different dimension of marital life from a normal well being. I would say this book is a reflection of hidden reality which exists in our common day life.

The first story of Riya is just an example of every victims story who is betrayed, cheated, went to a great trauma without doing any mistake rather than loving their partner without knowing their sexuality. People hide their sexuality and marry due to social and family presure but in the end of the day the girl who believes that drama becomes the prey. Some rebuild their life, some goes into depression, some women take years to come out of it and some stay the same. This is what the secrets of mismarriages is all about. Physical and mental trauma a spouse undergoes when they marry a opposite gender. This book mainly focuses on woman who are deceived by men who marry clueless straight girls to cover up their actual identity.

The book is full of knowledge regarding relationship and what are the mistakes in marriage that is a “Mis-marriages”. Preface was really exciting for the further read for me. The definition of love which author gave was really factual and the four pillars concept in relationship was helpful for anyone who needs a clarity regarding how a person should keep the spark alive in a relationship. Simple language and perfect way of narration is the positive side of the book. In my case I felt little slow and lag inbetween. On the whole the book is a knowledgeable guide for all the women to be mentally stable who enter into a marital life or for some women to over come it. Interesting title and you can read it in one sitting.
